Central Victoria

Trentham Falls

A short trip to Central Victoria on a cool January weekend. A brief detour to this wonderful waterfall. At Trentham, the Coliban River plunges 32 metres over a basalt cliff which has eroded over time to form a ravine several hundred metres long. The Dja Dja Wrung Aboriginal people of the area no doubt enjoyed this area on hot summer days for a refreshing rest.

Overgrown but survived the years.

Bird calls fill this valley today but Wheelers Sawmill in the 1880s filled it with clatter and sparks. Above is what’s left of a log-cutting pit, the timber would be placed across the beams and two men would work at it using a band saw, one above and one below in the pit.

The sawmill may be long gone but the danger remains, overgrown toilet holes abound!
